One Final thought: Welcome

Written by: Brian Sumner

In the time I’ve spent recording, producing, and releasing the “Dude, What?! Movie Review Podcast,” I’ve come to further realize just how much the movie watching experience is unique to each and every movie fan across the globe. The experiencing of watching a film for the first time is kind of magical in the regard of you don’t fully know what to expect from what you’re about to see unfold on the screen. Unless, of course, you’re one of those weirdos that likes to scour the Internet for spoilers but you guys aren’t “one of those” guys, are you?

Are you?

Being that the movie watching process is different for most everyone it’s certainly understandable that sometimes watching a film only one time and passing judgment or giving critique in a negative light isn’t always fair. Of course, there are times when certain movies are absolutely deserving of my merciless wrath.

I’m looking at you, Super Troopers.

However, I will say, over the past few years I have come to realize that some of the movies we’ve covered on our podcast need a little more review. A little more thought. A bit more digging down beneath the surface of the initial viewing in an effort to unearth more substance that may have been missed out on initially.

Some movies require

One Final Thought.

The idea behind One Final Thought is to explore, in a more in-depth manner, the reviewed films and conversations that have occurred here on the podcast. Occasionally, I will think back about a review and I will have follow up thoughts that I feel are noteworthy enough to share with our audience. Other times, I will reiterate my initial ranking on a certain film but add on some extra thoughts about how to make a film better or give reasons why my ranking still holds up. I may also go back and flat out change my initial review based on a more broad approach of thinking or possibly a second viewing of the film.

It’s all in an effort to keep the conversations about film and movies going and to drive the interest in cinema.

We can all agree that there’s nothing more fun than watching a movie for the first time and then being able to have a great conversation about the story and the characters with your spouse or your best friend or even your kids! It goes beyond the actual movie-going journey itself and expands the realm of “Movie Fandom” just by simply creating and having a dialogue. Every facet of the process of watching a movie, from seeing the first trailers to buying your ticket all the way up to plopping down in your seat and taking it in for the first time, all become woven together into something that is more than just watching a movie.

It’s an experience. And there’s nothing quite like it.

One Final Thought gives me a chance to go back after the dust settles from an initial movie viewing, be it good or bad, and take another peek at the film I just experienced. Not only does this blog give me the chance to reconsider or even bolster my initial review, it gives our audience a chance to weigh in on the discussion. We always say, “Join the conversation,” and that’s all One Final Thought was ever designed for:

keeping the movie conversations going.

So now you know what to expect when you read a One Final Thought. I highly encourage everyone to listen to the original episode that covers the topic of each One Final Thought,

gather your opinions

then sit down and read the blog

maybe

just maybe

you’ll have some final thoughts of your own on the subject.

Thank you for joining our conversations.
